Jordan’s Full Bio

Education: Jordan graduated in 2012 from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a focus on molecular and microbiology. During his freshman year, he was selected to conduct research for the College in collaboration with the Science Education Alliance SEA-PHAGE project, with a grant by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, to study viruses as an alternative model to antibiotic therapy. His lab’s research was genetically sequenced at Los Alamos National Laboratory and eventually led to publications in various journals such as “Virology”, “Advances in Virus Research”, “Bioinformatics”, and the “Annual Review of Microbiology”.

Experience: Before working at MLS, he taught psychology, English, and mathematics in the Stafford County public education system. After joining the MLS team, he engages students with a personal, enthusiastic, and fundamental approach to learning. Due to his years in research, Jordan is also familiar with and has first-hand experience with contemporary and emerging DNA and biotechnologies such as PCR, electrophoresis, electron microscopy, and genetic mapping/sequencing.

Specialties: His specialty is fostering a love for mathematics and the sciences by highlighting the reality of the material as it applies to the students and how we use can use tools like mathematical modeling to understand the complexities of the natural and scientific world around us. In addition, Jordan tries to extend his own innate curiosity for all parts of the natural and physical world around us to his students. It is not unusual for Jordan to hold the complete attention of both students and staff alike as he dynamically and clearly explains complex scientific concepts.Jordan has also studied Classical Latin prose and poetry in high school and college and is well-versed in his knowledge of the Roman culture and language. Jordan is also available for college gateway SAT/ACT test tutoring.
