Education: Sue Gail received her B.A. from Vanderbilt University and her M.A. from George Washington University’s School of Public and International Affairs.
Experience: Sue Gail has worked as a librarian for National Public Radio and National Cathedral School. At National Cathedral, Sue Gail and a colleague created a nationally recognized search engine and participated in website development. Currently, Sue Gail is Head Librarian/Library Media Specialist at Norwood School, where she is a member of Norwood’s diversity committee, is Model UN sponsor, and is the lead eighth grade advisor. Her Norwood Visiting Author Program featured such children’s literature luminaries as Brian Selznick, Jacqueline Woodson, Rick Riordan, Rita Williams Garcia, Jack Gantos, and Ellen Oh. In 2010, Sue Gail traveled to Tanzania to set up the first ever library in the village of Mwika and currently runs a small charity providing books and school supplies to Maasai children of Kenya. Prior to working in schools, Sue Gail researched and wrote foreign policy reports for the Congressional Research Service. Long ago Sue Gail briefly sang backup for Johnny Cash.
Specialties: Sue Gail teaches reading, research skills and writing. She encourages students to discover a love of literature which supports improvement in reading and writing. She teaches research techniques including strategies for finding and using databases and online sources while emphasizing the important tasks of first reading and assimilating. Sue Gail takes students through researching, structuring, writing, editing, and citing that is necessary in formal paper construction. Sue Gail is a master at teaching Spanish grammar at all levels. Her overriding goal is to help students feel confident and accomplished in their work since nothing motivates like success.
