COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Updates

MLS is currently monitoring the coronavirus as it affects the DC area, and will be updating this page as necessary.

As you know, Governor Northam has ordered Virginia schools closed for the rest of the academic year. We know your children are your greatest assets and we want to do our part in helping to protect them from illness. In light of the current situation, all lessons will be conducted remotely using Skype, Google Hangouts, or Facetime. Here’s a link to help with connecting via Google Hangouts (headphones will help to limit background noise).

This is normally the busiest time of year for students, and we have an opportunity to focus on foundations, get any missing assignments turned in, and maintain a rhythm of work. We anticipate teachers will maintain their current pace when classes go online, so that all coursework is completed by the end of the school year. This is excellent training for the students as our world continues to become increasingly digital!

We will be available for lessons starting at 10:00 am daily. Group tutoring will continue as normally scheduled (3:30 pm – 7:00 pm, with an additional 12:00 pm -3:30 pm session on Sunday). They will still craft a To-Do list, have discussions with the tutors, use shared documents, work independently with specific direction and goals, and finish with a Just the Facts email. Tutors are also available hourly for one-on-one sessions, if you’d prefer.

We will also be creating sequenced at-home assignments for students which can be used for additional skill development and independent or parent-monitored work. These assignments will reinforce, enrich, or develop critical skills. They will supplement the minimal amount currently provided by some schools and school systems during this emergency, especially for elementary-aged children. Please contact us at scheduling@mlstutors.com to request a consultation and complete explanation of the programs we are putting together.

Please utilize the CDC Coronavirus Summary page, as it has accessible, up to date information and resources for everyone. If you have any questions or would like to request a change in schedule, the fastest way to reach us is by email at scheduling@mlstutors.com; you may call the office to leave a message, but there will be a delay.

Thank you all so much for your patience, and remember that we are here to support your students through this uncharted territory.
